DIY Personalized Special Date Penny Jewelry

These earrings cost only a few pennies to make, lol, pun intended. The biggest challenge is finding pennies with your special date. You could make birthday pennies, anniversary pennies, graduation pennies, you get the idea. My penny earrings celebrate the birth year of my two sons. I have a 2009 penny for Lucas, and a 2002 penny for Joshua. Both pennies were hand painted using my Sharpie trick, to give them a faux patina. You don't have to color the pennies, and of course you could paint them any other color you prefer. Next I covered the top in a glossy accent, to give it a clear bubbled look, and protect the faux patina. Attach to earring findings, or bails, to make a charm for a necklace or bracelet, and you are done.
Materials:

Sharpies (I used light green, turquoise, light blue, and a silver metalic Sharpie to get the color above)
Special Date Pennies
Glossy Accents Gel
E6000 Jewelry Glue
Earring Findings

Directions:

First clean your pennies with antibacterial soap, and dry. Using Sharpie markers, color the face of each penny until you get the desired look. Cover top with your Glossy Accents gel. Remove any bubbles quickly using your nail or a needle before gel has a chance to dry. Cover and let dry per package directions. I usually let them dry over night. Glue earring findings or bails to the back side with Jewelry glue, and again let dry over night, or per glue package directions. That's it, you now own one of a kind, personalized jewelry, just for you!

These would make great Christmas or Mother's day gifts for someone special.
What are you waiting for, grab your purse, find those special date pennies, and get to crafting. Well that's what I have been up to, what about you? Come share at our weekly Anything Goes linky party.

DIY Recycled Light Bulb Mother's Day Ornament

Mom You Light Up My Life

With  Mother's Day around the corner, I have prepared a super easy Mother's Day craft for you. The best part, this is a frugal earth friendly craft. Transform an old burned out light bulb into a pretty sentimental ornament for mom.

Materials:

Old Burned Out Light Bulb
Metallic Sharpie (I used gold)
Sharpie (I used black)
Yarn (I used a golden brown)
Jewelry Wire (I used gold)

Directions:

Color your bulb with your metallic Sharpie. Write with your other Sharpie "Mom you light up my life". Wrap jewelry wire on top, making a loop for hanging. Tie a bow around the top with yarn.

Well that's what I have been making, what about you? Come share at our weekly Anything Goes linky.

Original pictures above taken by Katie Zumpano Photography.

Have you all had a chance to check out PicMonkey yet?  As someone who loved Picnik, I am even more excited with PicMonkey.  It seems quick and easy to use.  You can edit your pics just like you did on Picnik.  They even have new editing options that were not available on Picnik.  All of these options are FREE at the moment, but they will eventually have a membership fee for those that want to use their coolest features. Here are some examples of what you can do on PicMonkey:
