Frugal Yarn Skein Earring Craft Tutorial With Video

At my shop TLC Creations, I specialize in making whimsical miniature jewelry. I love when I make something that is so unique, I can't find it anywhere else on the web. A while back I listed some miniature yarn skein earrings on my shop, and today I will share with you how to make your own! These earrings are a perfect gift for any lady that likes to use yarn in crafting, crocheting, or knitting. They will also make a unique Mother's Day gift. Since you can customize the colors, they will work for any holiday crafting. You can see I made a pair of green ones, with rainbow tape, perfect for Saint Patrick's Day. For the ones in my shop, I designed a miniature label on my computer. This takes more time, but will let you personalize your gift even more. For the tutorial and video today, I am using pretty masking tape, however Washi tape works too. Since it's easy to mix and match tape and yarn to any color scheme, the possibilities are endless for the final product.

Thanks to my oldest son Joshua for being my video photographer today.

Materials:

Yarn
Jump Loops
Hook Earring Findings

Directions:

Wrap yarn around the tip of two fingers, and continue to wrap until you get the desired width for your earrings that you like, I find 12 times is good. If your yarn is thicker, you will need to wrap less. Place the beginning and end of yarn in the middle of your handmade skein, so that it will be covered and secured with tape. When you remove yarn from your fingers, twist either end a bit, this will bring in the middle a little.  Wrap tape several times around the center of yarn skein, tightly to secure yarn. Rub a little extra strength glue on the end of tape to secure permanently,  Repeat to make second miniature skein. Then use your jewelry pliers to attach jump loops to top of yarn skeins, and to loops on hook earring findings.  Watch video above if you have any further questions.

If you plan on making your own yarn skein earrings, please share this post on Facebook and pin it. I would love for you to share your yarn skein earrings at our Anything Goes weekly linky. If you do make a pair, and blog about it, please link back to my blog post here. I can't wait to see the endless designs you all come up with.  If this tutorial is well received, I might show you how to make a yarn skein into a necklace, in a future post.

Well that's it, easy right? I hope you will make a pair for yourself and someone you love. That's one of the many things I have been making, what about you? Come share at our weekly Anything Goes linky.

DIY Valentine Gift For Her "You Light Up My Life" Light Bulb Earrings

For Christmas, I shared how to make your very own light bulb earrings, using Christmas lights. Now with a few added steps, you may make a unique pair of Valentine earrings for someone you love. These tiny real light bulb earrings have little notes wrapped around them and secured with  red string. The notes read "You Light Up My Life".

Materials:

Clear or Red Tiny Replacement Bulbs
Folding Crimps
Earring Hook Findings
E-6000 Glue
Tiny Notes "You Light Up My Life"
Clear Packing Tape
Red String

Directions:
Trim the two wires off the top of bulbs. Open folding crimps, and mold and shape around the top of bulbs. Glue bulbs to open folding crimps. Let dry, before hanging on earring findings, using needle nose pliers. Next print out on computer, or hand write, tiny notes that read "You Light Up My Life". I used a font on PicMonkey that has hearts in it. Feel free to right click, save, and print, the image above. I chose to laminate my notes with clear packing tape. You will need to roll as tight as possible the notes around the bulbs. Then you will secure with red string, tying tightly.

Not feeling to crafty, but want the earrings. They are still available in my shop TLC Creations

Well that's what I have been up to, what about you? Come share at our weekly Anything Goes linky party.

DIY Christmas Tree Light Earrings

I have been a busy bee getting ready for a local Christmas craft fair. I made these earrings to sell at the event. Of course they turned out so cute, I will have to keep a  pair for myself. I have seen real Christmas tree light earrings on Etsy before, but I have not seen any made like mine. I used folding crimps to hang my real bulbs.

Since they are not wire wrapped on top, like most bulb earrings, they look more streamlined. They actually remind me of crystals from farther away. I might wear mine year round.

Materials:

Mini Replacement Bulbs
Folding Crimps
Jewelry Glue E-6000
Earring Hook Findings

Directions:

Trim the two wires off the top of bulbs. Open crimps, and mold and shape around bulbs. Glue bulbs to open folding crimps. Let dry, before hanging on earring findings, using needle nose pliers. Hang on free clip art if desired.

As you can see, I took an open folding crimp, and glued it to the bulb. I had already trimmed off the two wires on top of the bulb with scissors.

After the glue dried, I attached them to my earring findings. I then finished them by attaching them to a cute card.
I searched online for free Christmas tree light images, and found several different clip art  for lights. I ended up using the one pictured above thanks to Free Clip Art N Images Blogspot.

If you have enjoyed these earrings, please share on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Fall To Winter Pine Cone Earring Craft

These earrings were really easy to make using charms from WholePort. The pine cones on their own, are perfect for Fall. Adding some white nail polish, and ribbon, makes them perfect for Winter.  You can order these from my Etsy shop TLC Creations, or make your own using my tutorial below.

Materials:

White Nail Polish or Any White Paint
Ribbon
Earring Findings
Jewelry Pliers
Lighter

Directions:

For simple Fall pine cone earrings, attach charms to earring findings, using jewelry pliers. For Winter earrings, paint charms with white paint. Once dry, tie a ribbon around the top of each pine cone. Optional, carefully heat and melt ribbon edges with lighter, to reduce fraying. Finally, attach charms to earring findings, using your jewelry pliers.

Fall Leaf Jewelry Tutorial Two Ways

These antique bronze leaf charms from WholePort are great on their own as earrings, but look even prettier when you add some color to them. All I did was color them with Sharpies, then seal them with a Mod Podge Clear Matte Acrylic Sealer. They will be the perfect Fall accessory. You may order them from my Etsy shop TLC Creations, or make your own, using my tutorial below.

Materails:

Sharpie Permanent Markers
Mod Podge Clear Matte Acrylic Sealer Spray
Earring Findings
Jump Loops
Needle Nose Jewelry Pliers

Directions:

For simple antique bronze earrings, attach leaf charms to earring findings, using jewelry pliers, and jump loops. To add color, use Sharpie's to color your charms. Then spray with your sealer. I used two light coats of  sealer. Let dry, and attach to your earring findings, using jump loops, and needle nose jewelry pliers.
