DIY Recycled Light Bulb Mother's Day Ornament

Mom You Light Up My Life

With  Mother's Day around the corner, I have prepared a super easy Mother's Day craft for you. The best part, this is a frugal earth friendly craft. Transform an old burned out light bulb into a pretty sentimental ornament for mom.

Materials:

Old Burned Out Light Bulb
Metallic Sharpie (I used gold)
Sharpie (I used black)
Yarn (I used a golden brown)
Jewelry Wire (I used gold)

Directions:

Color your bulb with your metallic Sharpie. Write with your other Sharpie "Mom you light up my life". Wrap jewelry wire on top, making a loop for hanging. Tie a bow around the top with yarn.

Well that's what I have been making, what about you? Come share at our weekly Anything Goes linky.

Recycled Light Bulb Carrot Ornaments

Maybe it's because my Bacon Asian Orange Chicken Pizza is a semifinalist recipe in the Pillsbury 1 Million dollar Bake-Off contest, or maybe it's because carrots always remind me of Spring, either way I have orange crafts on the brain. This "orange" craft is also green, recycling old burned out light bulbs into ornaments.

Materials Used:

Old Bent Tip Light Bulbs
Orange Yarn
Green Yarn
Green Floral Wire
Hot Glue
Green Permanent Marker
Orange Permanent Marker

Directions:

Using scissors or wire cutters, cut floral wire in half. Wrap it around the base of your light bulb, forming a loop for hanging. With hot glue, attach orange yarn, wrapping tightly around bulb as you go. At the base of bulb, wrap green yarn tightly around base and floral wire. Hot glue ends of yarn down. Tie a bow around top of bulb with more green yarn. If any hot glue shows up white, color it in with your permanent markers.

Well that's what I have been making. What have you been up to? Please come share at our Anything Goes weekly linky party.  If you have not cast your vote yet in the Pillsbury Bake-Off please do so now. My Bacon Asian Orange Chicken Pizza would love your vote. Voting ends for the Doable Dinners category on 3/28/13.

Frugal Earth Friendly Center Piece Perfect for New Years Eve

Christmas is over, and if you are like me, you are feeling a bit sleep deprived.  Christmas can be crazy, even my littlest one (pictured below) found himself needing a nap (trust me, he doesn't take many).

So this week I am going to share ideas you can use for a stress free New Year's Eve party.  Starting with this wine bottle center piece.  I know I am pinching pennies over here after Christmas shopping.  The last thing I can do is purchase a costly floral arrangement for New Years Eve.  So what I have done is taken some branches from my Christmas tree and placed them in a green wine bottle.  I cleaned the wine bottle off first.  I used rubbing alcohol and hot water to get it clean and sticky free.  Then after it was dry, I hot glued some leftover plastic snowflakes to it.  You can find these flakes at Walmart for a dollar.  Then I decorated it with some tulle and some green floral wire.  You will want to fill it with water, so your tree branches don't dry out.
So you see with items on hand, using Christmas tree branches, an empty wine bottle, and leftover holiday ribbon, you can have your center piece for New Years ready in minutes.

Stick with me this week, as I share how I am getting ready for New Year's Eve.  I will be sharing a festive Spicy Cider Martini!  You might even have all the ingredients on hand from Christmas to make it. Then I will be sharing an easy meatball appetizer recipe that will be ready in minutes, that can be prepared in your crock pot, and kept warm for your guests. Finally I will share a super easy festive dessert, that your guest can nibble on as they mingle.  The last thing I want to do on New Years eve is a bunch of dishes, so this week is all about easy entertaining.

I hope your Christmas was amazing!

DIY Melted Snowman Ornaments

Well I am furiously trying to type up posts for all of the Christmas Ornaments we made this year.  As always, Christmas seems to catch me by surprise with how quickly it comes.  This little guy has been patiently waiting on our tree for his debut at Bacon Time, as you can see there is not much left to him (LOL).  Here is what you will need:

I love decorating with pine cones.  I have an abundance of them here in the Sierra Mountains.
This is a super quick and easy project for some frugal, earth friendly, Thanksgiving decor'.  The kids will have so much fun making these.

Tackle It Tuesday Tutorial DIY Gumball Jars Guest Post

I am so thrilled to have Nicole the blogger of Crafty Soccer Mom here today.  She is super sweet, has an incredible blog with lots of great tutorials, just like this fabulous one she has for us today!  Take it away Nicole...

Hi Everyone!
I am so honored to be on Bacon Time..Mindie is awesome!  I mean the girl loves bacon and pigs, need I say more? No..but I will!  Seriously, Mindies blog is so much fun, there is always something going on, and her linky party's are fantastic, and the fact that she loves piglets makes my heart melt, cause I too love me some pigs!  Mindie has been so kind and helpful to me, and always so supportive.  I can't thank her enough..Thank you Mindie!  Ok..enough about her geesh lol :)

Here is a little about me...My name is Nicole and I am a 30 something SAHM of two awesome boys.  I LOVE to craft and try to make something new every chance I get.  Using recycled products is always my favorite..I love turning trash to treasure.  My blog is only a couple months old, so I'm a newbie, but thanks to people like Mindie, I'm getting the hang of things.

So today I would like to show you my DIY Gumball Jars.  I have been making them for YEARs, but I have noticed they have become pretty popular these days.  When I first started out making these, I used Baby Food Jars....Like in the picture below..

These are cute, and fun, plus you can recycle all those empty baby food jars!

Let's get started on the tutorial of my updated version of these Gumball Jars.
Here are my supplies:

Red Acrylic Paint
E600
Small Terracotta Pot
Small Terracotta Pot Saucer
Small Glass Bowl
Acorn Dowel Cap
GUMBALLS!

All these supplies can be found at your local craft store..except possibly the gumballs.

This is a glance at what the set up for this will look like...but first you need to paint your pot and saucer Red.
Or any other color you prefer..you can color coordinate these with up coming holidays or what ever color matches your decor or tickles your fancy :)

After the paint is dry, add your E600 to the bottom of the pot, not quite all the way to the outer edge because it will spread when you place the glass bowl on top.

See here, I put it almost to the edge
Next I glued the Acorn Dowel to the upside down saucer (your lid)

Now you take your little bag of Gumballs and pour them into the glass bowl..this is my youngest son's favorite part..he always gets right in there when this project is done!

And here's your Gumball Jar!  SO STINK'N CUTE!  I painted the top piece silver..just to spice it up.  These are so much fun, I have made them for a ton of people.  My husband has a big one at his office and customers LOVE it.  The fun part is that there are options..different sizes, colors, and you can fill them up with any sort of candy you like.  I filled my Mother-in-Law's up with Hershey Kisses and it was so cute.

When people want a Gumball..and trust me they will want one..they just lift up the lid and grab one!

I realize that there are different skill levels of crafters out there, so if you have ANY questions please feel free to ask, I'd love to help you through it.

I really hope you enjoyed my tutorial..and I hope to see you over at my my blog sometime, and thank you again Mindie for this awesome opportunity..you rock sister!

Well I am still blushing over here.  Thanks Nicole for your kind words and great tutorial. Seriously folks check out Nicole's blog, I promise you will be happy you did, I know I am.

Tackle It Tuesday Teacher Appreciation (& Summer Daze Give Aways Continued)

I bring you craft tutorials all the time and have decided to try and stick to a schedule.  So from this point on I hope to always have a Tackle It Tuesday Tutorial for you all to enjoy.  If you miss a week, don't worry you can always head to the top of the blog under the crafts and fashion page and find any of the ones you missed.

Well since it is the last week of school, I thought it better late then never to show you what we tackled for a teacher appreciation gift.

My son and I made a pencil vase with of course more pencils inside of it.

Materials Needed:
5 dozen pencils #2 of course
1 bandanna we used light green
1 plastic drinking cup also light green
1 large hair rubber band accessory

Very simple to do.  All we did was place the rubber band around the cup and added as many pencils as we could fit to go around the cup.  Then we tied the bandanna around it tightly and placed the rest of the pencils in the pencil vase.  This is really just a nice way to present pencils for the teacher.  I started out teaching after college and know that teachers often use their own limited resources for classroom supplies.  This is a practical and useful gift for a teacher, take it from me.

The tag reads #2 pencils for a # 1 Teacher ( I know not the most original but it's fitting).

Now you all know that I consider myself to have a good sense of humor.  My oldest son has had the same teacher for the last two years.  My son, as smart as he is, can be a bit of a chatty Kathy in the classroom. I have been reminded of this every parent teacher conference for the last two years.  So I thought a little gag gift would be appropriate.  Keep in mind I did not let my son see this part of the gift, because I didn't want him to take it the wrong way.  I love how much he enjoys talking to me and I know that when his teen years get here that might not always be the case, and that makes me sad.

A hand made photo pill box (PS I have a tutorial coming for this later) and inside none other then a pair of earplugs.  I contemplated adding aspirin too.

Hear is to a Great Summer and many more Tackle it Tuesday Tutorials.

I know it's not Earth day anymore.  But we still need to do our part to reduce waist.  This craft is a great start.  Recycling only one day a year, is kind of like dieting only one day a year, (it doesn't make a difference)so keep those Earth friendly crafts going.
